MammaGeek Rules

All geeky moms welcome! Seriously. Are you a geek? Are you a mamma? Then join our fun!

These are the rules, know them, love them, follow them.

1. MammaGeeks is a place of RESPECT!

  • We are a diverse group with members of all backgrounds.  Please respect everyone and their beliefs.
  • MammaGeeks is a drama-free zone! Inciting drama may lead to removal from the group. Additionally, in an effort to keep our drama to a minimum, we consider these topics to be “Hot Button Topics”. The guildlines for there are as follows. -Posts that mention religion/church/prayer are ok as long as the stay debate-free and do not discuss theology. -Political discussions are banned. They just get too heated. -We will allow posts that mention vaccinations, circumcision, and ear piercing for medical questions as long as they stay debate-free. Also please remember to always seek the advice of your doctor. FB doctor should never be a replacement for the real thing. -We will allow posts that mention spanking as long as they stay debate free and do not indicate abuse. If at anytime admins feel the post is getting to out of hand we will delete at our discretion. This list will continue to change and grow as these specific topics are identified.
  • MammaGeeks strives to be a safe space for all of our members. We do not allow shaming of any kind of anyone for any reason. Examples include, but are not limited to, sharing screenshots in order to shame someone else, Mommy Wars/Sanctimommy posts, and perpetuating marginalization of our members. If POC, LGBTQ+, or another minority member says this is happening, then we need to believe it is happening and adjust our behavior accordingly. Refusal to accept resources (links, articles, etc.) presented and change approach will earn the offender an official warning. We do not allow any type of hate speech, including offensive slang. Inappropriate comments will be deleted at our discretion and the offender may earn an official warning.
  • FIGHT CLUB – What goes on MammaGeeks stays in MammaGeeks. That means no discussing MammaGeeks threads and absolutely NO MammaGeek screenshots in other groups. This also means do not let your significant others comment on posts in your stead. We see this group as a safe haven and we wish to keep it that way. Violating this rule is grounds for removal.
  • We ask that you put trigger warnings on these sensitive subjects, Child harm, Self-harm, Suicide, Rape, Abuse, Child Loss, Miscarriage, & Violent Death or Injury. Trigger Warnings should have Trigger Warning along with the subject and the picture should be in the comments. Ex. Trigger Warning:Child Harm*

2. Spam/Fundraising/Host Parties:

  • Spammers will not be tolerated and will be deleted and banned.
  • MammaGeeks does not allow direct solicitations for fundraising on its wall. This means that there shall be no posting of “gofundme” sites (or similar sites). It is acceptable to sell or auction off items to raise funds for whatever cause warms your heart, but do not post a gofundme site or similar fundraising site directly. Additionally, any fundraising done, including the selling or auctioning of items, must directly benefit a member of MammaGeeks. No fundraising for members outside of our community. If you want to raise funds for a MammaGeek in need, please contact an admin. Thank you.
  • We do not allow consultant or host “parties” for items directly on the MG Main Wall. These include things like Jamberry Nails, etc.

3. OT posts:

  • OT (Off-Topic) is defined as anything NOT Geeky or NOT mommy related. Our primary focus is on mommy and geek topics. Please post your OT posts in our OT group listed below. If you have to search for a “geeky because” justification, it’s not geeky and should go in OT. Ask-a-geek type posts such as “Any critter geeks here? What’s this creepy crawly?” belong in OT. If you have questions about something you want to post, ask an admin first.
  • If we have a group for it, that’s where it should go!  For example, gardening questions are best answered in Herbology, mental health questions are best answered in Serenity, and car seat questions are ONLY to be answered in The Car Seats of Safetyville.  Admins will delete and redirect posts to the appropriate group at our discretion.

4. Admins:

  • Blocking an admin is grounds for removal.
  • Please be aware that Admins can and will delete posts at their discretion, whether the post is inappropriate, OT, a repost, or shaming another member. Please PM an admin if you have a question about why your post was deleted.  Always check your “Message Requests” folder for messages from an admin.

5. MammaGeeks does not have a revolving door policy. However, it revolves under certain circumstances.

  • If you are removed by an admin or choose to leave on your own accord, our doors will be locked to you.
  • However, we will allow for some exceptions. If you discuss with an admin ahead of time your reason for leaving and your desire to be let back in at a later date (examples include, but are not limited to: personal, a Facebook hiatus, you’re changing your Facebook account, etc), we will take that into consideration.

6. Photos:

  • When posting photos, please try to create and use an album when possible. Facebook has photo limitations in groups and we’d hate for glitches to occur.
  • We follow FB Terms of Service.  For the safety of our members, we do not allow nudity, including naked baby butts (as cute as they are!).

7. Medical Disclaimer

  • The information provided by members of this group is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. All content, including text, graphics, images and information, contained on or available through this group is purely anecdotal.

8. Smutty Saturdays:

  • Smutty Saturdays will occur every Saturday by request. Please keep any and all Smutty Saturday photos, links, and GIFs to the one thread! Smutty Saturday may not appropriate for little eyes. 😉
  • Please keep the smut geek-related to remain within the theme of our group.  While the theme of the thread is Smutty Saturday, please use discretion, we follow FB TOS, NO PORN, no hacked photos, no banned topics.
  • Pulse-racing posts will be directed to the most recent Smutty Saturday post, even during the week.  You can always search for #MGSmuttySaturday to find it.

9. Meme Mondays & Theme Thursdays:

  • Meme Mondays will occur every Monday by request. Please keep any and all meme threads to this ONE thread! #MGMemeMonday
  • As a reminder, all memes must be respectful, so NO RACIST memes (if you’re not sure don’t post it!), NO offensive memes, please do your best to avoid spoilers, and please keep the memes in our thread geeky!
  • Theme Thursday will occur every Thursday by request. You may post spoilers on Theme Thursday as long as it is in accordance with the theme. #MGThemeThursday

10. Screenshots:

  • Do not post screenshots from outside sources if being used to criticize or shame another person. If you are posting a screenshot that isn’t shaming or criticizing, be sure to block out any identifying information. If you question whether a SS might be permissible, please feel free to PM an admin for approval.

11. Spoilers:

  • Do not post spoilers directly on the page. Use language in your post like **SPOILER for DW current season** then add your spoiler in the comments of your post. There is no time limit on spoilers, everything gets a spoiler warning. There are many fandoms where people are just joining, be respectful of newbies and don’t spoil it for them.

12. CPSTs:
We know you love Car Seats, well some of you do anyway. We’re just here to let you know what we have MANY WONDERFUL Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians on this board.

  • To better serve our members we have formed a group that is just for our Car Seat  Technician to answer questions. You can find that group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/161894144158591. Admins are Elizabeth Stubbs & Melissa Wilder
  • Please remember that -only- CPSTs should answer car seat questions. We appreciate that everyone has a seat that works best for them and they want to tell the world, however, it becomes overwhelming for a new mom and important information from us gets lost in the flood. We are specifically trained to help a parent find the seat that is perfect for their child, their car, and their budget. It’s not always as simple as just throwing out a recommendation. Non-cpst answers will be removed at admin discretion.

13. Sister Groups :
Once you are a member of our main group, http://bit.ly/MammaGeeks you may join our officially sanctioned sister groups.  You must be a member of Mammageeks to join these groups, and if you leave Mammageeks, you will be removed from our sister groups as well. NOTE: These are official groups. They come with a specific set of requirements, including that every member in these spin-offs are members of the main MammaGeeks group and the admins are in close communication with the admins of the main group.   *DO NOT CREATE AN OFFICIAL SPIN OFF WITHOUT SPEAKING TO AN ADMIN FIRST (a list of the admins is found at the bottom of these rules, in the pinned post, and in the group description).*  MammaGeeks no longer allows unofficial offshoot groups. This is to reduce confusion and maintain community standards. If you have a question, please pm an admin!

In addition please feel free to add yourselves to our handy map to see if there are any other MGs local to you! https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=1373267

The admins are always here for you! Please feel free to contact any one of us at any time if you have any questions or concerns. This group is meant to be a friendly group of mamas where we can get our geek on. We love that you are all here and make this group so amazing! Thank you for being a part of it and for making it so awesome.
